With ongoing uncertainty around large outdoor events this summer due to COVID-19, a decision has been made to postpone the Bedford River Festival until 23rd & 24th July 2022.
The Bedford Events Team put your safety and enjoyment to the top of their priority list. They understand that although this is disappointing news, anticipation for 2022 will be bigger than ever, and can’t wait to deliver an awesome weekend cram-packed with family entertainment!
Many individuals, businesses, local community groups and essential services put a lot of hard work, time and energy into planning the River Festival. The Bedford Events Team would like to say a huge thank you for your ongoing support during this time of uncertainty. The team look forward working with you ahead of next year’s festival.
As ever, The Bedford Events Team will continue to keep traders, exhibitors, local residents and businesses informed of further developments.
Mayor Dave Hodgson said the following about the postponement of the River Festival and Kite and Motoring Festival, “This is not a decision that was taken lightly. Large gatherings are still not permitted under Government guidance and with the amount of work and time needed to plan these Festivals, particularly the River Festival, and ongoing uncertainty about how long these measures will have to be in place, we were unfortunately left with little choice but to postpone these events to next year.
“We know this is disappointing news. After postponing these events last year, we were really looking forward to bringing them back in all their glory this year. But the safety of the public is our number one priority, and we are looking ahead to next year.
“Thank you to our Festival sponsors and supporters for their understanding and support during this challenging time for us all, and we are already looking forward to the relaunch of the festival next year.
“As we move through the year, more people are vaccinated and hopefully restrictions can be eased, we will be exploring options for smaller summer events, so please watch this space.”

The 2024 River Festival will include countless river activities, eight live music and performance areas, the Sports Island, Family Island, Green Earth Village, the wonderful offerings of the Festival Market, Bedford Festival of Motoring, plus so much more!
